Frequently Asked Questions

Clean Energy Leeds is a Community Benefit Society (a form of co-op) that  installs solar panels (and other appropriate sustainable energy resources) on community and business premises. We are a not-for profit organisation, all profits are used for running the business and community benefits.

We organise a variety of events and meetings that aim to engage our community in sustainable energy and local empowerment.

All of our directors are volunteers and so do not get paid for their services.

We do not install solar panels on domestic properties. We do install and project manage solar panel installations on community and business premises.

We are always looking for volunteers. Please get in touch through our Contact Us form and we will get back to you.

The Panels Stay on the Building:

A formal rooftop lease means the panels are fixed to the building and must remain there for the full contract term.

Community Protection Rules:

CEL’s rules include an asset lock ensuring all equipment must be used for community benefit and cannot be sold off for profit.

Automatic Transfer if Needed:

If CEL cannot continue, the system transfers smoothly to another community energy group or the centre itself. The panels keep working and your discounted energy continues to be supplied
