What is a Community Benefit Society?
A Community Benefit Society (CBS) is a type of cooperative that works to benefit the wider community. It’s designed to support local needs and priorities, with profits reinvested back into community projects.
Community energy is about people coming together to have a say in how their energy systems work and make it work for them and also about creating a future that is greener and fairer for people, usually in their local area.
How Solar Panels generate profits
- Energy Savings: Solar power helps lower electricity bills by generating energy that doesn’t need to be bought from an energy supplier.
- Selling Surplus Energy: Any extra electricity can be sold back to the grid through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).
- Government Support: The SEG offers payments for energy we send back to the grid, providing a steady income stream.
How Alwoodley Community Energy (ACE) uses these profits
- Reinvest in Green Projects: We’re committed to expanding solar installations and funding renewable energy projects in Alwoodley and nearby areas.
- Lower Energy Costs: ACE will work to make energy more affordable for more people in our community.
